Star struck or not, plenty of 2010ers are tapping the shoulder of an astrologer to figure out the significance of the blue moon and the lunar eclipse, also known as a Blue Moon Lunar Eclipse, that marks the close of the decade, the year, the month and the week. A blue moon is so rare that there won't be another one on New Year's Eve until 2028.
What does it all mean?
It depends on where you live. A "Blue Moon" is defined as the second full moon to occur in any given month, which happens once every 2.7 years. But not all parts of the world get a Blue Moon gift on New Year's Eve. India and parts of Central Asia will get the Western "Blue Moon" on New Year's Day (January), making it their first full moon of the month — not a blue moon.
Some astrologers concede that this particular Blue Moon and its coincidence with New Year's Eve means nothing significant astrologically, except for those who can't resist the allure of symbolism, signs and synchronicity. If that's you, you have a lot to work with. Others champion the uncommon occurrence as an energy boost that will help each of us manifest all that we envision for 2010 and beyond, provided that our wishes are for the greater good.
But blue moons, generally speaking, are reputed to influence our relationships for several months, just like regular old full moons. They are characterized by difficult adjustments, necessary capitulations and ultimate freedoms. All in all, the Blue Moon means more growing pains. Coupled with the current retrogrades of both Mercury and Mars, this Blue Moon is also likely to intensify a return, a redo, a reassessment, a rethinking, a reconfiguring and a renewal. In other words, old friendships that are no longer nourishing can dissolve during this period along with old hopes, old dreams and old aspirations. Old groups and alliances — dashed. Old, non-productive contracts, pledges, promises and projects — history. It's sort of like a massive Spring Cleaning for the New Year. Doors close, windows open, new air rushes in.
How will it affect you?
It depends on your sun sign. This particular full moon on New Year's Eve is in Cancer while the sun is in Capricorn, setting off the Cancer-Capricorn parts of our charts. These parts touch opposing sides, representing the inner emotional zone of Cancer and the outward physical and professional realm of Capricorn. So it seems that more than any sector, professional groups, liasons and "business" friendships are expected to face extreme light in the first few months of the new year with a big broom in action to help clear out those relationships that no longer serve us.
